New Website Offers Resources Based On Courageous – The New Movie Centered On Fathers

Vista, CA (PRWEB) October 18, 2011

To accompany the release of the new movie, Courageous, Outreach Inc. is offering a resource website with a collection of products inspired by Courageous that churches and the public can use to help share the principles of the movie with their congregations’ families and fathers.

Courageous, the fourth release of Sherwood Pictures, the moviemaking ministry of Sherwood Church in Albany, Georgia, has already seen box-office success. The movie joins Fireproof, Facing the Giants and Flywheel as entertaining cinematic productions that impact lives through heartfelt stories of faith and hope.

The movie journeys into the lives of four law enforcement officers. When tragedy hits each of the four, the men are left wrestling with their hopes, fears and faith as well as their fathering. The movie realistically depicts the issues related to families who live without a courageous father. According to All Pro Dad, in the United States over 36% of all children (24.7 million) live without their biological fathers. The negative impact of a father’s absence can be seen in education, suicide and behavior studies. A child from a fatherless home is 9 times more likely to drop out of high school as 71% of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes as cited in the National Principals Report on the State of High Schools. According to the U.S. D.H.H.S. Bureau of the Census 63% of youth suicides are from fatherless homes. And a recent Center for Disease Control report reveals that 85% of all children that exhibit behavioral disorders come from fatherless homes.

Working with several of the official Courageous product partners, including B&H Publishing, LifeWay Christian Resources, and DaySpring, Outreach, Inc. has launched CourageousResolutionCertificate.com a website dedicated to Courageous-inspired products including two books titled, The Resolution for Men and The Resolution for Women. The Resolution for Men was written by Alex and Stephen Kendrick, the same writers responsible for the New York Times best seller The Love Dare book that was inspired by their screenwriting for Fireproof. Priscilla Shirer is the author of The Resolution for Women, adding the book to her long list of successful books aimed at helping women.

The site also offers replica prints of The Resolution document seen in the movie being signed by the main character, Adam Mitchell portrayed by Alex Kendrick is also available for men to sign for their families. The website also provides background information on the books, sample chapters and details about the Courageous commemorative certificate. Through the website visitors can also learn more about the movie, view trailers and the read biographies for the authors behind the Resolution books.

About Courageous

Courageous is the fourth release of Sherwood Pictures, the moviemaking ministry of Sherwood Church in Albany, Georgia. Krav Maga New York Poised To Establish Itself As A Leader In Krav Maga Based Hand-to-Hand Defensive Tactics Training

Krav Maga New York Poised To Establish Itself As A Leader In Krav Maga Based Hand-to-Hand Defensive Tactics Training

Official Logo

Westchester County, NY (PRWEB) October 28, 2011

After being catapulted to the forefront of Law Enforcement Tactical Training over a year ago by facilitating specialty training for one of NY State’s elite special ops teams, Westchester & Orange County based Krav Maga New York vanished from the spotlight, or so it seemed. But, as KMNY’s Lead Force Training Instructor Ed Raso explains, “There are many people out there who claim to have trained Law Enforcement. When you dig a little deeper though, you find that they’ve trained individuals who just happen to be in Law Enforcement. On occasion, you may find someone who trained an agency once. That ‘once’ speaks for itself. Since its inception our Force Training Team has repeatedly and consistently trained Law Enforcement, both individuals and agencies, and our list of references continues to grow. Our commitment to this process is evident by our Instructors’ dedication to their own continuing training at the highest levels of Krav Maga. KMNY currently has 6 certified Force Training Instructors, and we will have 9 by the end of 2011. We are not ‘once’ guys”.

Krav Maga, renowned worldwide for its effectiveness against real life violent encounters, was originally created for the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). Unlike Mixed Martial Arts, Boxing, Wrestling, BJJ, or other forms of rule-based competition, Krav Maga was designed for real world attacks where rules simply do not apply. One of the most sought after methods for self-defense, it teaches practitioners how best to neutralize attacks and escape unharmed. Krav Maga is characterized by simple, instinctive responses against realistic attacks, and the defenses are easy to learn, easy to retain, and can be replicated under stress.

Krav Maga’s total body fitness has attracted countless Hollywood stars including Jennifer Lopez, Kristanna Loken, Brendan Fraser, Jennifer Garner and Ashton Kutcher. Krav Maga is also a favorite among many Law Enforcement, Military, and Anti Terrorist Training Units who depend on Krav Maga for its explosive nature and unrivaled effectiveness

Since 2004, Krav Maga New York (based in Westchester and Orange Counties) has been featured on the Journal News, the North County News, the Record Review, LoHud.com, the Blotter, Hudson Valley Magazine, Healthy Frontiers, and News 12 Westchester. KMNY has trained thousands of civilians and hundreds of Law Enforcement officers including members of New York Tactical Officers Association (NYTOA) and a high profile protective services unit. KMNY is recognized and highly regarded by leading Krav Maga licensing bodies nationwide.

More recently, members of the KMNY Force Training Team conducted Law Enforcement specific training for officers at both the Westchester County Police Academy and the Rockland County Police Academy. Additional training is scheduled next month for a multi-state law enforcement agency tasked with protecting our ports and harbors

When asked about the surge in KMNY’s popularity, Owner and Chief Instructor Davide Gristina simply said, “We put people first”.

About Krav Maga New York:

Krav Maga New York offers authentic Black Belt level Krav Maga training to civilian adults, kids and Law Enforcement. KMNY has presented at public libraries, temples, high schools, elementary schools, scout meetings, boys and girls clubs, charity events, colleges, and for leadership and other groups. Somewhere beyond the circle of money, glitz, drugs, and controversy that characterizes professional sports in America, remnants of an ideal exist. In Iowa, that ideal survives in the form of high school wrestling.

Each a three-time state champion, Jay Borschel and Dan LeClere have a chance in their senior year to join the sport’s most elite group: the “four-timers,” wrestlers who win four consecutive state titles. For Jay, a ferocious competitor who feeds off criticism and doubt, a victory would mean vindication over the great mass of skeptics waiting for him to fail. For Dan, who carries on his back the burdens of his tiny farming community, the dreams of his hard-driving coach and father, and his own personal demons, another title is the only acceptable outcome.

Four Days to Glory is the story of America as told through its small towns and their connection to sport the way it was once routinely perceived: as a means of mattering to the folks next door.

National Microscope Exchange Offers the Newly Released Atago PEN-Wrestling Hydration Tester to Check Wrestlers for Proper Hydration Levels

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Carnation, WA (PRWEB) August 15, 2008

The newly released ATAGO PEN-Wrestling digital refractometer supplied by National Microscope Exchange will help keep wrestlers in compliance with weight-management rules. These rules, as approved by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), require monitoring of hydration of all wrestlers beginning with the 2006-2007 Wrestling season.

The ATAGO PEN-Wrestling will allow coaches to easily determine if their athletes are in compliance with recommended hydration levels. It reads urine specific gravity immediately on a hand held instrument according to National Microscope Exchange President Rowland Brasch.

“The PEN-Wrestling digital refractometer is very easy to use,” said Brasch. “Unlike other refractometers where you have to transfer the sample to the instrument using a dropper, the PEN-Wrestling refractometer can be dipped into or touched to the sample. Not only does the digital display take the guesswork out of reading the results, but it also keeps the sample away from your face as you read the scale. Its ease of use and affordability make it a perfect instrument for use in wrestling programs.”

National Microscope was noted as the vendor of choice for purchasing the other Atago hydration testing refractometers by the CIF Southern Section in their Wrestling Weight Management Equipment recommendations.

“The PEN-Wrestling refractometer can be also be used at the professional and college levels, and is anticipated to quickly become the standard for clinical assessment of Urine Specific Gravity. The reputation of Atago for making world-class refractometers is well known, “said Brasch.

Folkstyle Wrestling Moves

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

What are Folkstyle Wrestling Moves?

There are three types of wrestling. The first type of wrestling is folkstyle. This is also known as collegiate style wrestling. This is what you see in the junior highs, high schools and colleges in the United States. The two other types of wrestling are Freestyle and Greco Roman wrestling. These to types of wrestling are the international or Olympic wrestling styles. The United States is the only country that practices folkstyle wrestling.

What are folkstyle wrestling moves?

Folkstyle wrestling moves are any wrestling move that is legal or that is not illegal rather within the rules of folkstyle wrestling or collegiate wrestling. Many moves from Greco Roman and Freestyle wrestling are legal and carry over into folkstyle wrestling. On my blog I recently posted some videos that demonstrate different folkstyle wrestling moves and drills. If you are interested in learning more wrestling skills then I suggest that you go to my blog and watch the videos. However, since this is an article and thus does not use video I will attempt to describe or explain what these moves are, how they are done and when you would use them.

The Granby Roll.

The Granby roll is a classic example of a folkstyle wrestling move. This skill is ONLY used in folkstyle wrestling and not in freestyle or Greco Roman Wrestling. This is a move that the wrestler will do from the bottom position. You execute the Granby Roll by creating enough space between you and the top wrestler to move your hips out so that you are now at a T to your opponent. You are perpendicular to him rather. Then you want to catch his wrist and roll towards his head. As you roll you through your elbow in between his legs and catch the leg closest to you. When you come through you should, if done correctly, have your opponent on his back. You should be holding him there by locking his arm and leg around your body. Video explains this skill far better than I can with words, but I hope this helps.

Dive and Roll Single Leg Defence.

This move is not a high percentage move but from time to time, when a kid is really athletic or is a lot better than his opponent, this move works. This is a last resort way of getting out when your opponent has shot in and picked up your leg into the air. You are now hopping on one foot hoping not to get taken down. So, in desperation you turn away from the other wrestler, dive and roll. As you roll your leg kicks free. You then turn and face your opponent. Again, this is hard to explain if you have never seen the move. There is video of the move on my blog.

Head Lock.

The head lock is one of the most effective and most ineffective moves there is. It is a great way to score 5 points when you are losing or to get a much needed pin. It is important to do correctly and to know when to hit it otherwise a wrestler can get in trouble. You start by doing what is called a back step. It is a step you take to pop your hips through underneath your opponent so that you can then through him over the lower part of your back and onto his back. A great drill to practice this move is to have one wrestler pop his hips through and throw tehn hold the other person up. Then the other person pops his hips through and throws. You repeat this over and over.

Other folkstyle wrestling moves include:

the single leg, double leg, high c, fireman’s carry, arm bar, cheap tilt, stand up, knee slide, tight waist, cross face, 2 on 1, under hook. I hope this is helpful.

There Are More Good Wrestling Schools Than You Might Think

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

When I ask the average sports fan to name some good wrestling schools, I invariably hear names like Iowa, Iowa State and Oklahoma State.

While there is no doubt that these schools have some of the strongest wrestling programs in the country, there are many other great wrestling schools that most people would either never associate with the sport or have never heard of, period.

Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, for instance, is a small school that has one of the top 10 wrestling programs in the country on a regular basis. As a sports writer, I have covered two state champion high school wrestlers that signed with Lehigh, one of whom was nationally-ranked and had Olympic aspirations.

Cal Poly is another example of one of those strong wrestling schools that not many people think about when they talk about the sport. They are usually among the top 25 schools in the country, and have several wrestlers considered to be among the best in their respective weight classes.

Another school that usually has a few individual wrestlers ranked among the elite Division I competitors in the country is Bucknell University.

Moving over to the Ivy League, Cornell is considered to be a wrestling powerhouse, and the remarkable thing about that is that the Ivy League is really not considered that competitive among Division I colleges and universities in most of the major sports with the notable exception of hockey. Harvard and Penn have also produced some good wrestlers.

Edinboro (and no, I am not talking about Scotland) is another wrestling school in Pennsylvania that produces some of the best wrestling talent in the country.

When most of us think about athletic talent in the state of Michigan, we think of the University of Michigan or Michigan State, right? Not this year; the best of the wrestling schools from the Wolverine state this year is Central Michigan.

I have often wondered why you see schools that have some of the stronger wrestling programs in the country that you rarely hear about in other sports, and I think the answer is actually pretty simple. Some  schools simply do not have the resources to produce strong athletic programs in multiple sports like the University of Texas, Florida, USC, LSU or Alabama, so they focus on one sport.

You can see the same thing in baseball with Pepperdine University or Wichita State, or in basketball with Duke University or Gonzaga.

There are a number of good wrestling schools out there that the average sports fan has never heard of, or maybe had no idea that they were so strong in the sport. The important thing, however, is that fans of the sport of wrestling and wrestlers themselves know about them, and you better believe that wrestlers would consider it an honor and a privilege to be a part of those programs.

2006 ASICS East Coast National Beach Wrestling Championships

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Irvine, CA (PRWEB) June 9, 2006

ASICS America Corporation is proud to once again announce its sponsorship of the world’s newest sport: Beach Wrestling. This year’s event will be contested over two days, Saturday August 12th and Sunday August 13th in Long Beach, NY. Last year’s inaugural event attracted 212 participants from 11 states, and was hosted by the Metropolitan Wrestling Association (MWA). It was held just off an elevated 2 mile long boardwalk, with the surf beaches of the Atlantic Ocean in the background. Local, regional and national attention was generated through media outlets including Fox 5 Good Day (New York) TV show, USA Today, Newsday, WINS radio, and the College Sports Television Network (CSTV). Live Sports Video provided Internet production worldwide.

The competition will be sanctioned by USA Wrestling, the National Governing Body of wrestling in the United States, who will also be hosting the USA National Beach Wrestling Championships in Palm Beach, FL on August 19th. FILA, the worldwide governing body for wrestling, will premier the first ever World Beach Wrestling Championships in Turkey this October.

The ASICS East Coast National Beach Wrestling Championships will be held where thousands of people go to relax, exercise and enjoy a beautiful environment. Last year’s event attracted over 12,000 spectators, while enhancing the general public’s interest in, understanding of, and appreciation for amateur wrestling.

Revenues generated from this competition will be donated to the Metropolitan Wrestling Association’s (MWA) Beat The Street’s program, and an ASICS equipment donation will be made to the Long Beach Recreation Department’s wrestling club to help outfit their members. The MWA’s goal is to establish folkstyle wrestling in 100 middle schools and 100 high schools in New York City by the year 2010, and has to date raised over one million dollars of the $ 3.5 million needed to meet the ambitious goals of the organization. There are currently 25 high schools with wrestling in NYC.

“The City of Long Beach is very pleased to be hosting the ASICS East Coast National Beach Wrestling Championships”, said Commissioner of Parks & Recreation, Joe Brand. “Last year’s inaugural one-day competition was a huge success and we are all hoping that this year’s two day event will attract an even greater response. Word has definitely spread around the wrestling community that the event was competitive, and professionally run. Not only do the wrestlers have a great time, but the spectators get to spend the day at our beautiful beaches, soaking up the sun, enjoying the ocean, and watching skilled wrestlers compete for the crown.”

The event will have 6 divisions: middle school, high school, college, veterans, girls and women.

The rules for Beach Wrestling are simple: men wear athletic swimming trunks and women wear one or two piece bathing suits. Wrestling is on a sand surface, with a 20′ diameter circle marked in the sand. Matches start in the standing position and last 3 minutes. Athletes may not kick, punch, or attack the face or hair.

To win a Beach Wrestling match, an athlete must do one of the following:

** Score a fall by forcing the opponent’s shoulders to the sand

** Score two takedowns

** Score two throws

** When the opponent is penalized twice for fleeing the competition area

** Scoring one takedown and having one fleeing call against the opponent

** If the three minute period ends in a draw, the athletes wrestle in overtime until the winning points / fall are attained.

ASICS America Corporation has been the official equipment supplier to USA Wrestling since 1984. ASICS is internationally recognized for consistently creating some of the world’s most technologically advanced athletic footwear, apparel and accessories.

Specific information on registration, entry fees, schedule, etc. can be obtained on the Metropolitan Wrestling Association’s web page.

Additional information on the ASICS East Coast National Beach Wrestling Championships can be obtained by calling TW Promotions, Inc. at 631-588-4343 x104.

Media inquiring concerning the event should be directed to Gary Abbott of USA Wrestling at 719-598-8181.
