Hitting the tractor tire with the sledge hammer is a great core workout that also builds upper body strength. MartialArtsPride Academy also plans on having Kettle Bells available for other non-traditional core workouts.

2011 Branded Arts Exhibition

LA Champions Martial Arts Competition Compete Championships brings the best in youth and adult Sport Karate in this action packed tournament. (Saturday)

Along with these new events, several fan-favorites are set to return including The Gracie US Nationals & Kids World Championships, The All-American Strongman Challenge, The Scot Mendelson Bench Pro Classic, The Warriors Wrestling Competition, The USPA American Cup Powerlifting Championships, and The LA Fitness Expo Benchpress and Deadlift Championship.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to compete in the MAX REPS 4 CASH Competition and Bodybuilding.com’s BodySpace Spokesmodel Search. One lucky man and woman winner will grace the cover of Iron Man Magazine and represent Bodybuilding.com and the BodySpace community.

A heavy Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) presence will certainly be felt with Sherdog and MMA Worldwide hosting several top athletes, pro-training sessions, ring girl contests, live remotes as well as many vendors with the latest gear. The latest longer-length update to the legendary Babolat Pure Drive, the new Pure Drive GT (Graphite Tungsten) Plus adds a hybrid of braided carbon fibers and tungsten filaments throughout the entire racquet. Tungsten strengthens the frame to reduce torque for greater precision (Babolat claims 26% more precision compared to the previous Pure Drive). Babolat continues to utilize the Cortex vibration filter at the top of the handle. Cortex is used in several of Babolat’s players racquets to enhance feel by cancelling only the 2 highest vibration frequencies. Only those frequencies that enhance feel are permitted to pass through the Cortex filter.

Babolat has kept the specifications on the new Pure Drive GT Plus virtually the same as the previous generation Pure Drive Team Plus and Pure Drive Cortex Plus. That is, the Pure Drive GT Plus remains the definitive tweener (between powerful/controlled) frame. 100 sq. in. head, 11.30 ounce strung weight, and 307 swingweight provide an excellent balance of power, control, and maneuverability. Extra 0.5 inch length for added power and reach.

The Pure Drive GT Plus will still appeal to a very wide array of players. One of a few racquets that works well at the net, as well as the baseline.

Film and fashion (and fun) will unite at the inaugural San Francisco Fashion Film Festival in Spring 2012. San Francisco Fashion Film Festival (FashFilmFest), coming to the Roxie Theatre, is a new film festival that explores the role of design, style and costume in cinema. With a day of screenings, panels, and events, FashFilmFest brings a fresh perspective on the films that have influenced trends, fashion and culture throughout the decades.

Offering a well-edited selection of independent, documentary, and Hollywood films, FashFilmFest will present both unexpected titles as well as time-honored classics. “You don’t have to be a follower of fashion to appreciate the impact that it has on the history of film and popular culture. That’s why we created FashFilmFest,” cof-founder Kimara Stokes said.

FashFilmFest aims to feature films that have inspired trends, beauty, design, and culture, and give attendees insight beyond the usual standard bearers of Hollywood and grant access to the creators. Some of the best examples of costume, set design, storytelling, and cinematography will be explored in the dramatic film category. Stories of the designers and artists who shape the world of fashion and style will be showcased through documentaries.

FashFilmFest recognizes the deep reserve of stories that there are to tell about the world of fashion and style and is inviting independent filmmakers to submit their work. The call for submissions for independent films is open through Friday, February 3, 2012. Independent films may be submitted for consideration through the fashfilmfest.org website.

The Roxie Theater, San Francisco’s oldest continually operating theater, turned 100 in 2009.
