Heart of a Champion

As spectators and fans we cheer for our favorite team.  We also naturally want them to win.  The won/loss column becomes the yardstick by which the vast majority of us measure success.  In effect, whether an individual athlete is a winner... OR A LOSER... is predicated upon who wins on the scoreboard.  Within the Wilson wrestling program, this is not the case.  We certainly believe in winners and losers, but we use a different instrument by which we determine the category into which one falls.  It may... or it may NOT  be one who gets his hand raised.  But we believe that there are things infinitely more important.  Winning... AND  losing is, to us, a matter of the heart.  See what you think about how we determine this!

Heart of a Champion

Heart of a Loser

~ NEVER quit no matter how bleak the outlook ~Quits easily especially when things aren't going his way.
~ NEVER complains even when treated unfairly. ~ Complains often and accuses others of being unfair.
~ Loses with dignity and takes responsibility for the loss. ~ Blames losses on someone/everyone else.
~ Always tries to do his best. ~ Only tries hard when winning and/or not tired.
~ Humble. ~ Arrogant. Craves attention.
~ Concerned with the team and helping others. ~ Concerned about self first and foremost. Critical of others.
~ Wants to win desperately... but only within the rules. ~ Follows rules only when forced to do so.
~ Welcomes a stiff challenge. ~ Is afraid of tough competition and allows the fear of failure to overwhelm him.
~ Believes winning comes from hard work. ~ Thinks winning is due to luck.

We believe that there are winners who are really losers... and there are losers who are ultimately winners.  The winners are the ones who have integrity and honor.  We would all do well to heed the part of Dr. Martin Luther King's famous speech in which he said in part that we should "judge people on the content of their character."  The coaching staff here judges our wrestlers on their willingness to train hard and compete with courage and determination in the face of difficulties through honorable actions and attitudes.
